Benefits of Swimming

THE BENEFITS OF SWIMMING

While winning is nice, while setting a record, getting a best time, or making a qualifying time feels good,
we hope that our young athletes learn more than, “It is great to swim fast.” No where in human history or
theology do we learn that the ability to swim fast holds a very high priority in the grand scheme of the
universe. From a practical standpoint, over-emphasis on speed, times and achievements will eventually
end in frustration. No matter how fast a young athlete swims, there will probably be another swimmer in
the next town, state, or country, swimming faster, if not now, then next month.

Fees and Team Suit Information

Swim team members pay a swim team fee, the cost of the team suit and the required fund raising
obligation. The fees include coaching salaries, lifeguard expenses, insurance, awards, meet fees etc.

Volunteer Opportunities

Each family is required to serve on a committee during the season. In order for meets to run smoothly
we need everyone’s help. A description of committees is available below. We additionally ask all
families to sign up to be a timer at least once during the summer. This is in addition to regular
committee requirements. If you just love being a timer, consider serving on the Timing Committee and
you will be able to be a timer at several meets during the summer.

All of these committees/jobs allow you to either see your child (children) swim while doing them or to
step out and watch a particular event (events). We are all here to see our children swim, learn, grow and
most of all have fun. Please consider all the work and time your child is putting into this team and take
an active role in doing the same. We look forward to seeing you at the pool!!
